WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING YOUR FREE TOUR IN GRANADA

The free tour system works differently in Granada because of the cobbled slopes of the Albaicín and the seasonal timetables. You pay nothing upfront — just enter your name and email and your place is confirmed for a walk through the UNESCO World Heritage neighbourhoods with privileged views of the Alhambra.

You receive email confirmation with the exact meeting point (Plaza Bib-Rambla or Plaza de Santa Ana depending on the tour), the departure time and your guide's direct contact details. If you have questions about the slippery cobblestones on rainy days or need recommendations for after the tour, you can contact the team directly before setting off.

Granada's free tours suit any type of traveller but do require comfortable footwear for the Albaicín slopes. The advantage is that you pay the tip you feel is fair after discovering the secret viewpoints with the finest views of the Alhambra and hearing the Nasrid legends that only local guides share.

In peak season, book in advance as the sunset time slots fill up quickly. The walk through Plaza Bib-Rambla, the Cathedral, the Alcaicería and the lower Albaicín gives you the perfect grounding to then decide which monuments to explore from the inside, such as the Alhambra or the Royal Chapel.

4 WAYS TO JOIN THE GRANADA FREE TOUR

Online via our website

This lets you compare seasonal timetables, review the exact Albaicín itinerary and complete your booking from any device. You choose the route through the Nasrid neighbourhoods, confirm your date and time, enter your basic details and receive instant confirmation by email.

Message us with the date of your visit to Granada, how many people are in your group and any questions about the Albaicín cobblestones for mobility reasons. We confirm available places instantly and answer any questions about the route through the viewpoints with views of the Alhambra.

Telephone call during office hours

This lets you speak directly with the team, clarify the itinerary from Plaza Bib-Rambla to the Albaicín, ask for after-tour recommendations and discuss any special requirements. Perfect if you prefer to confirm all the details in conversation before committing.

Walk-up on the day

This works by arriving 20 minutes before the departure time and checking direct availability with the guide. We cannot guarantee places, especially for the sunset time slots which are the only ones available daily in Granada.

Corporate group management

Advance coordination is required at least 72 hours ahead to guarantee specialist guides and content tailored to the professional or educational profile of the group.

WHAT YOUR FREE TOUR BOOKING INCLUDES AND OUR GUARANTEES

Your free tour booking includes everything you need to discover Granada without any complications. We work exclusively with certified official tourist guides who live in Granada and have an in-depth knowledge of every detail of the city's three-culture heritage.

Once you book, your mobile becomes your entry pass. You receive automatic confirmation with all the information: exact meeting point, precise departure time and direct contact details in case you need to reach us before the tour. No paperwork, no complications.

The tour lasts 2 hours on foot around the exteriors of the essential monuments. You will get to know the Cathedral, Royal Chapel, Alcaicería, lower Albaicín and Plaza de Santa Ana while hearing stories about Nasrid Granada. All from the outside, but you will come away understanding more than on many indoor tours.

Groups are small — maximum 30 people — so you can hear the explanations clearly and ask questions when something particularly interests you.

Not included: entrance fees to monuments (exterior viewing only), drinks, food or transport. At the end of the walk, you give the tip you feel is fair based on your experience.

FREE CANCELLATION AND TIPS ON FREE TOURS

Free tours operate without any upfront financial commitment, which makes cancellation far more flexible than traditional pre-paid visits. You can cancel up to 24 hours before with no penalties or further explanation required.

To cancel, simply reply to your confirmation email, contact us via WhatsApp or use the same channel through which you originally booked. If something comes up on the day and you cannot attend, please let us know even just an hour in advance so we can free up your place for other interested participants.

In the event of adverse weather (heavy rain that makes the Albaicín cobblestones dangerous, storm), we will contact you to offer a date change or cancel outright with no obligation. In light rain the tours continue with umbrellas available.

Regarding tips at the end of the tour: the usual amount ranges from €8 to €12 per adult if the tour met your expectations. Couples tend to give €15 to €20 in total and families with children around €20 to €25. There is no fixed or suggested amount — it is entirely voluntary based on your experience and means. The tip is given directly to the guide in cash at the end of the tour. Some guides accept Bizum or card payment, but this is not universal.

INFORMATION AND DETAILS BEFORE JOINING YOUR FREE TOUR

Everything you need to know to make the most of your Granada experience, stress-free and without any surprises.

Usual meeting points

Granada free tours typically start from Plaza Bib-Rambla (next to the Giants' Fountain) for the city centre and night free tours, or from Plaza de Santa Ana (next to the Church of San Gil and Santa Ana) for the Albaicín and Sacromonte visit. These are central, easy-to-find locations just a few minutes from the Cathedral and at the natural entrance to the Albaicín. Guides arrive 10 minutes early and wait with an orange umbrella.

Duration and what you will discover

Free tours last 2 hours on foot through the historic city centre and beginning of the Albaicín. You will visit the exteriors of the Cathedral, Royal Chapel, Alcaicería, Madraza and walk up the first cobbled alleyways of the lower Albaicín with initial views of the Alhambra. These are 2 to 3 kilometre walking routes with stops for explanations, photographs and rest breaks. The pace adapts to the group.

Available time slots

Free tours depart at sunset times: 18:00 (October–March) and 20:00 (April–September). The daytime free tour also has departures at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 16:30 and 17:30 subject to availability on the day. This scheduling makes the most of the best light over Granada's rooftops and avoids the midday Andalusian heat.

Groups and availability

Maximum 30 people per guide to ensure everyone can hear clearly and feel comfortable asking questions. In low season, groups are smaller (8 to 15 participants). In peak season (spring, autumn, Holy Week), the unique time slots fill up 1 to 2 days in advance.

Accessibility and comfort

The route is partially accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs. Pets are welcome throughout the activity and most stops have shaded areas available.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE GRANADA FREE TOUR

  • A free tour operates without a fixed pre-set price. You book for free, join the walk and give whatever tip you feel is fair at the end. We are official guides specialising in Granada, not intermediaries. We know every legend of the Albaicín and give you genuine recommendations you will not find in commercial guides.
  • On a free tour you pay nothing upfront and give a tip at the end based on your experience. They are outdoor-only tours around monument exteriors lasting around 2 hours. Standard guided tours have a fixed price and often include indoor monument access. Free tours offer greater financial flexibility and an ideal overview for getting your bearings on your first day in Granada.
  • Your mobile is perfectly fine. The confirmation you receive by email is all you need. Show it on screen to the guide and you are set. If you prefer a printed backup, that is also fine — but it is not required.
  • If places are available, yes. Free tours usually have availability up to 1 to 2 hours before, but in peak season (spring, autumn, Holy Week) they fill up the day before, especially as there is only one sunset time slot per day. Summer tours tend to have a little more last-minute availability.
  • Guides wait 5 minutes as a courtesy and then set off so as not to inconvenience the rest of the group. If you arrive late, you can try to catch up by following the Albaicín itinerary, but we cannot guarantee you will find us.
