Where exactly do we meet?

Granada Free Tours usually begin at Plaza Bib-Rambla (next to the Giants' Fountain) or at Plaza de Santa Ana (next to the church). These are central locations just a few minutes from the Cathedral and at the natural entrance to the Albaicín. The evening before you receive information with the exact location and a photograph of the specific meeting point.

How early should I arrive?

Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled time. Guides are identified with an orange umbrella. We start promptly as the itinerary includes 12 scheduled stops in exactly 2 hours.

What should I bring on the tour?

Comfortable footwear for walking on Albaicín cobblestones that can be slippery when damp, water (especially April to October), sun protection (cap, sunscreen) and your confirmation on your mobile. In winter, bring a jacket as tours take place at sunset when temperatures drop.

How many participants will there be in my group?

Maximum 30 people to ensure everyone can hear clearly and ask questions when something catches their interest. In low season, groups are smaller (8 to 15 participants).

Are there rest breaks during the tour?

Yes - we stop every 12 to 15 minutes for explanations and rest breaks. On the Albaicín slopes we look for shade where possible. With older participants or young children, we adapt the pace and include more breaks.

Can I take photographs during the tour?

Of course. We point out the best angles for photographs at every stop. The guide knows the perfect perspectives for each monument and is happy to assist with photos if needed.

What happens if I arrive late?

We wait 5 minutes as a courtesy and then set off. If you arrive late, you can try to catch up by following the itinerary, but we cannot delay as it would be unfair to the rest of the group.

Does the tour go ahead in rainy weather?

In normal rain, yes - we have umbrellas available. We only cancel when there is an official weather alert as the Albaicín cobblestones become dangerous. If we cancel, we will let you know and you can choose another date or cancel with no obligation.

TIPS AND PAYMENT AT THE END OF THE TOUR

Exactly how much should I contribute?

There is no fixed amount. Most people give €8 to €12 per adult, couples €15 to €20 in total and families with children €20 to €25. It depends on your satisfaction, the experience you received and your means at the time. It is entirely voluntary.

What if I am not able to give a tip?

Nothing problematic. Free Tours are genuinely free if you are not in a position to contribute. Guides understand this completely.

How is the tip given to the guide?

At the end of the walk, directly to the guide in cash. Some accept Bizum, QR code, Revolut or card payment (especially on the night Free Tour), but this is not standard for all guides. The tip is not given during the tour, only at the very end.

Do guides put pressure on participants for tips?

Never. Professional guides never apply pressure or suggest specific amounts. At the end they thank participants for joining and whoever wishes to do so gives a tip voluntarily.

Is the tip per person or per group?

Per group as a whole. If there are 4 of you, you can give a single combined amount rather than each person contributing separately.

Should I contribute if something did not meet my expectations?

You are under no obligation. The tip reflects your satisfaction with the tour. If something did not meet your expectations, you can give less or nothing, and you are welcome to share your feedback with the guide for future improvement.

MODIFYING OR CANCELLING YOUR BOOKING

Yes, up to 24 hours before the Free Tour with no cost or penalty. As no payment is taken upfront, simply let us know through the same channel you used to book (email, WhatsApp) and it is sorted.
Reply to your confirmation email, message us on WhatsApp or use the platform where you originally booked. Include your name and the date of the tour. We will confirm the cancellation immediately.
Of course, up to 24 hours before. Message us with your preferred new date and, if there is availability, we will make the change without any complications. The new confirmation will arrive automatically.
To add people: this depends on remaining capacity in the group (maximum 30). To reduce: no problem up to 24 hours before. In both cases, please contact us as soon as possible to manage the changes.
We will notify you by WhatsApp/email and you can choose to: transfer to another available date or cancel outright. We only cancel for official weather alerts, not for moderate rain.
If there is availability in another time slot, yes. Free Tours offer multiple daily time slots to choose from based on your schedule.

ACCESSIBILITY AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Is the tour viable for wheelchair users?

Granada's historic city centre has cobblestones and steep Albaicín slopes. The first part of the route through the centre is accessible. The Albaicín area has slopes, cobblestones and steps, making it unsuitable for wheelchair users. Please let us know when booking so we can confirm and adapt the itinerary where possible.

Can I bring a pushchair?

Yes, though the alleyways of the Albaicín are narrow and occasional manoeuvring is required. It is manageable but the irregular cobblestones should be considered. If you are travelling with a baby, we usually recommend a baby carrier rather than a pushchair for comfort on the slopes.

Do children enjoy the tour?

Very much so. Children love the Nasrid legends: the secrets of the Alhambra, the stories of the last sultan Boabdil, the alleyways where the Moriscos hid. The guide adapts the commentary to make it engaging for the whole family.

Is the pace adjusted for elderly guests?

Of course. For groups with older participants, the guide adjusts the pace and includes more rest stops. We look for benches and shade where possible. If you need a very leisurely pace, consider a private tour where we have full control over timings.

Are there facilities during the tour?

We point out bars and cafés where you can access facilities. There are options nearby at Plaza Nueva, Plaza Bib-Rambla and in the Albaicín. We also highlight these points at the start of the tour.

Are pets allowed?

Yes, on the streets and squares, with a lead required at all times. Free Tours are outdoor routes through public spaces where pets are welcome. Just make sure your pet is comfortable walking 2 to 3 km on cobblestones.

Is there an age limit for participation?

No minimum or maximum age restrictions apply. From babies in carriers to guests of advanced age have enjoyed our Granada tours. The guide adapts both content and pace to the specific composition of each group.

What if I have difficulty walking longer distances?

Please let us know when booking and we will adapt the itinerary. We can shorten certain stops, select routes with more benches for frequent rest breaks or prioritise the main monuments. The Free Tour should be enjoyable for everyone, not a test of physical endurance.

AFTER YOUR WALK THROUGH GRANADA

Where can I have lunch after the tour?

The daytime tour ends at Plaza de Santa Ana, from where you have plenty of options. For authentic tapas, the guide recommends local taverns at Plaza Nueva or nearby Plaza Bib-Rambla. If you prefer restaurants with views, the Albaicín cármenes offer options with a panorama of the Alhambra.

Can I visit monuments from the inside after the tour?

Exactly - this is the perfect strategy. After seeing all the exteriors and understanding their Nasrid history, you can decide which monuments to explore from the inside. The Alhambra and the Royal Chapel require tickets (recommended to purchase online). The San Nicolás Viewpoint and the Paseo de los Tristes are free.

Does the guide provide personalised recommendations?

Yes - at the end of the tour the guide shares local spots for tapas, authentic flamenco in the Sacromonte and hidden gems that do not appear in commercial guides. They also advise on getting around Granada and what to prioritise based on the time you have available.
