GUIDED TOUR OF THE CAPILLA REAL AND ITS TOMBS

   The visit begins outside the Capilla Real, next to the Cathedral area. From there, the guide explains the building's origins and why the Catholic Monarchs chose Granada as their burial place following the conquest of 1492.

   Before entering, you'll observe the Gothic façade associated with Enrique Egas and the surroundings of the former Lonja de Mercaderes (Merchants' Exchange), built at the same time next to the monument.

   Once inside, the tour focuses on the royal tombs. You'll see those of Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon, the work of Domenico Fancelli, and those of Joanna I of Castile and Philip I the Handsome, created by Bartolomé Ordóñez. These are key pieces of Renaissance funerary art in Spain, carved in Carrara marble.

   Below the altar is the crypt, where the monarchs' original coffins are preserved. It's a brief part of the visit, but helps to understand the difference between the monumental tombs and the actual burial site.

   The tour continues to the main altarpiece, the work of Felipe Vigarny, and ends in the sacristy, where Queen Isabella's personal collection is preserved. There you can see Flemish paintings, jewels, devotional objects and original manuscripts linked to the monarchs.
