ITINERARY OF THE ALBAICÍN AND SACROMONTE TOUR

   The visit begins in Plaza de Santa Ana, next to the area around the church of San Gil y Santa Ana. From this point the history of the city is introduced before heading down to the Carrera del Darro, one of the historic promenades that connects the centre with the climb up to the Albaicín.

   The first section continues alongside the River Darro, between 16th-century palaces and remains of medieval Granada. During the route there are stops at the Puente de los Tableros, the Bañuelo and the Maristán, spaces that allow discussion of the Moorish city, its public baths and one of the first documented hospitals in Granada.

   The climb up to the Albaicín passes by the Convento de Zafra and the house of Hernando de Zafra, secretary to the Catholic Monarchs. Further along appears the Iglesia de San Juan de los Reyes, built over a former mosque and linked to one of the preserved minarets in the city.

   The route continues through the Aljibe del Trillo, part of the Nasrid hydraulic system, and through the area of the Casa de Aben Humeya, where the War of the Alpujarras and the expulsion of Muslims and Moriscos is explained. From there you reach the Mirador de San Nicolás, with views towards the Alhambra, Generalife and Sierra Nevada.

   The route continues towards the Iglesia del Salvador and then takes the Vereda de Enmedio, a natural passage between the Albaicín and Sacromonte. In this part the landscape changes: the first cave houses appear, along with open slopes and viewpoints towards the Alhambra.

   Once in Sacromonte, the guide explains how the caves were excavated in the rock and how the neighbourhood gradually took shape on the old Valparaíso hill. The route passes by the Fuente de la Amapola, the Mirador de Mario Maya and areas linked to the tablaos where the origin of zambra flamenca is discussed.

   The descent takes place between caves and traditional spaces in the neighbourhood until reaching the Estatua de Chorrojumo, a Granada character associated with the first tourist visits to the Alhambra in the 19th century. The tour ends at the Paseo de los Tristes, beneath the slopes of the Alhambra.
